FAQ

  • How long does a spray tan last?

On average a spray tan can last anywhere from 5-10 days, and if you're looking to extend that beautiful tan, using a tan extender can give you an extra 3-4 days. But remember, it's not just about the application; pre-care and post-care play vital roles in maintaining that sun-kissed glow.

  • How do I prepare for a spray tan?

○Exfoliate: Start by exfoliating your skin to remove dead cells for an even tan application.

○Avoid Oils, Lotions, and Perfumes: On the day of your appointment, steer clear of oils, lotions, or perfumes. These can create barriers that affect your tan's outcome.

○Wear Dark, Loose Clothing: opt for loose, dark clothing to your appointment to prevent staining on your attire.

○Weather-Proof: Check the weather, and if there's a chance of rain, bring an umbrella or wear protective clothing.

○Aftercare Matters: Post-tan, follow the aftercare instructions provided by True Tan for the best and longest-lasting results.

     Additional Recommendations:

○Wax or Shave: Ideally, wax or shave 24-48 hours before your appointment. If this is not possible, we suggest using a new razor when shaving while you have the tan on. Be gentle to avoid exfoliating the tan.

○Manicure and Pedicure: For optimal results, schedule your manicure and pedicure at least 24 hours before your tanning session. If that's not possible, go for a dry manicure and pedicure without scrubbing.

  • Will a spray tan stain my clothes?

There's a possibility, especially if you sweat during the tan's development. To minimize the risk, choose loose, dark clothing and steer clear of tight-fitting items until your tan is fully developed and you've rinsed off any excess product.

  • When can I shower after a spray tan?

For traditional spray tans, wait 6-8 hours before showering to let the solution fully develop.

Rapid spray tans offer a shorter wait time, 1-4 hours before showering.

Remember, the longer you wait, the deeper your tan will become, regardless of the solution type you've selected.

  • How often should I get a spray tan?

The answer varies based on your preferences and lifestyle. Generally, many individuals opt for a spray tan every 1-2 weeks to maintain their desired shade. To ensure an even application and longer-lasting results, don't forget to follow True Tan's pre-tan tips and exfoliate properly before your appointment.

  • Will a spray tan protect me from the sun?

Absolutely not! None of the solutions available today provide SPF protection. Having a tan doesn't mean your skin is safeguarded from harmful UV rays. To prevent sunburn, it's essential to apply proper sun protection.

  • Can I exercise after getting a spray tan?

To maintain an even tan, it's recommended to steer clear of exercise and activities that induce sweating for at least 24 hours after your spray tan.

  • For what occasions do people get a tan?

Spray tans are a popular choice for a range of occasions, including weddings, proms, vacations, photoshoots, or simply to attain a sun-kissed glow without the risks of sun damage. They're also ideal for special events like weddings and can even be done as convenient mobile tans.

  • Will the spray tan dry my skin?

While the spray tan itself may lead to dryness if pre-care and post-care instructions are not followed, keeping your skin moisturized with a hydrating lotion during the maintenance phase can effectively prevent any potential dryness.

  • Do people with body hair develop an uneven tan where the hair is present?

Not at all! The spray tan solution mist has the capability to penetrate beyond the hair, ensuring that individuals with body hair achieve the same consistent tan as those without.

  • I HAVE EXCESSIVELY DRY SKIN CAN I GET A SPRAY TAN?

Absolutely! Achieving and maintaining your spray tan is still possible with some additional care.

○Exfoliate your skin for three days leading up to your spray tan appointment.

○Request a pre-spray hydrating mist on the day of your appointment.

○After your tan, be sure to moisturize at least twice a day to keep that radiant glow

  • How far in advance should I spray tan before attending a special event?

We suggest scheduling your spray tan 24-48 hours prior to the occasion, depending on the nature of the event. For instance, if you're preparing for a Saturday wedding, booking your spray tan on Thursday (2 days prior) is advisable.

If you're tanning for a vacation, plan your appointment for either the day before or the day of departure. This way, you'll have a vibrant tan that lasts throughout your trip

  • I sweat easily hOW do I avoid uneven sweat lines?

Here are some tips:

○Exfoliate your skin thoroughly before your spray tan.

○During the development time, try to stay indoors to minimize sweating.

○Opt for a Rapid solution with a quicker development time, typically 1-4 hours.

○Consider using our full-body drying mineral powder.

○Wear loose, dark, and breathable cotton clothing to minimize the risk of sweat lines.

  • Do I have to remove body hair before being spray tanned?

It's recommended to shave at least 24 hours BEFORE your spray tan appointment. Shaving or waxing both exfoliate the skin's top layer and open pores. If you spray tan immediately after, it can clog pores and create the appearance of freckle-like spots in shaved areas.

Shaving or waxing post-spray tan can accelerate exfoliation, reducing the tan's longevity and potentially causing uneven exfoliation, resulting in a patchy or streaky appearance. If shaving is necessary, use a very sharp razor with a light touch to remove hair without disturbing the tan.

  • What do I need to avoid while my spray tanning is DEVELOPing?

During this crucial period (the duration depends on your chosen solution), it's important to avoid any contact with water or products. This means no makeup, moisturizer, and refraining from activities that might induce sweating until after your first post-tan shower. That includes activities like crying, doing the dishes, or any unexpected encounters with water – even the unintentional ones!

  • Why will my spray tan only last seven to ten days?

It's due to the natural turnover of your skin cells. Every day, millions of dead skin cells are shed or worn away from the surface of your skin, which is the same area where the spray tan solution interacts to create the tanning effect. Approximately every 35 to 45 days, your skin regenerates with a completely new epidermis. This continuous cycle explains why sunless or self-tanning lotions gradually fade over time, as the dead cells are naturally replaced. However, consistent moisturizing can help prolong the life of your tan.

  • Is the color instant?

Yes, our solution includes a cosmetic bronzer, providing instant color upon application. The DHA, which is responsible for the tan's development, will continue to progress beneath the bronzer. For a original tan, this process takes 6-8 hours, whereas with a rapid spray tan solution, it's typically 1-4 hours. The longer you wait before showering, the more time the DHA has to develop, resulting in a deeper tan with both solutions.

  • WILL THE SPRAY TAN FEEL STICKY?

No, you'll experience a change in your skin color, but it won't feel sticky. Typically, within a few hours, your skin should return to its normal texture. If you chose to include a moisturizer or anti-aging additive, your skin might feel even better than before. For maintaining soft skin post-tan, we recommend our full-body mineral drying powder.

  • HOW OFTEN SHOULD I MOISTURIZE AFTER BEING SPRAY TANNED?

The rule of thumb is: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! After your tan has fully developed and you've taken your post-tan shower, it's crucial to establish a skincare routine. Regularly moisturizing your skin is key. A high-quality moisturizer provides hydration and helps your skin retain moisture for extended periods. Neglecting moisturization after a spray tan can lead to dryness and premature exfoliation, reducing the lifespan of your tan and potentially causing uneven patches. To maintain a lasting, even tan, be sure to moisturize consistently.

  • Can I apply makeup right after a spray tan?

Yes, you can apply a light layer of makeup following your spray tan. However, it's essential to avoid washing or rinsing your face during the tan's development time, as this can halt further development. When it comes to spray tanning the face, it's a personal choice. If you opt for facial tanning, we suggest applying a light spray to maintain a natural look. It's easier to blend makeup on a lightly tanned face than to try and lighten a deeply tanned face while still achieving a natural appearance.

  • If I have a dark spray tan will it last longer?

No, the darkness of your spray tan doesn't affect its longevity. The key to extending your tan's lifespan lies in using moisturizers and tan extenders.

  • Will I scrub my spray tan if I sleep while it sets?

If you intend to let your tan develop overnight, we recommend wearing long-sleeved tops and pants to prevent skin-to-skin contact. Such contact can generate friction, induce sweating, and hinder the proper setting of your tan. This also means avoiding skin-to-skin contact with anyone else.
